Painting deep colors in an open-ceiling space
Deep colors need the right base
Dark navies are mixed in a deep base with a lot of colorant, so they usually need a gray-tinted primer and two full topcoats to look even, especially over a light wall.
Where the wall meets an open ceiling
With no drywall ceiling to cut against, the top line follows beams, ducts and deck. Keeping that edge straight and consistent is what makes an accent wall look intentional.
Sheen on dark walls
Dark colors show roller marks and touch-ups more than light ones. A uniform matte or eggshell sheen, rolled in consistent sections, hides lap marks and makes future touch-ups blend better.
