A Holliston 4-bedroom family home — two kids in school, a dog who barks at strangers, and a homeowner who couldn't take the week off to relocate. The whole interior needed paint but the family stayed in residence.
The challenge
Living through a paint job is fine if the spec is right. Builder-grade paint at 200+ g/L VOC stinks up a house for a week. Low-VOC paint at < 50 g/L is barely detectable. The wrong paint here would've meant moving out.
What we did
- Specified BM Natura (zero VOC) for walls — safe to be in room within an hour
- Sequenced bedrooms first (kids slept in their own rooms each night)
- Box fans pulled air out of paint rooms toward open windows
- Dog stayed in one finished room with the homeowner as the day moved
- Kitchen done last, completed before dinner Friday
The result
Family didn't relocate. The dog stayed normal-anxious not paint-anxious. The kids didn't even complain — which is the highest praise on a project like this.
