A 1780s Concord colonial just south of Battle Road — six generations of owners, eight paint cycles, layered detail in every original wood molding. Owners commissioned a coordinated interior + exterior repaint in one mobilization, honoring the historic character.
The challenge
Concord historic district rules restrict palette choices and work hours. The 240-year-old plaster walls have settled cracks every 8-12 feet. Original wood moldings had been over-painted to the point of losing detail definition.
What we did
- Two-week pre-project coordination with the Concord Historic District Commission
- Exterior: scrape, hand-sand, oil-bond prime, hand-brush two coats Aura Exterior
- Interior: skim-coat all plaster cracks (~30 over 8 rooms)
- Bonded primer (STIX) over original wood moldings before BM Advance topcoat
- Walls in Classic Gray OC-23 (warm enough not to fight the molding character)
- Original window sash refinished off the building
The result
Historic district approval secured, character preserved, fresh finish that should hold 12+ years.
